PDX Picks April 30th 2008


Wednesday 30th: Scapino Ballet Rotterdam

The oldest contemporary company in Rotterdam makes its PDX Debut tonight. Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 SW Broadway. 7:30pm. All ages. $20-50.

Friday 2nd: Karaoke Throwdown

As part of this year's Portland Film Festival, Gallery Homeland will be hosting the first ever Experimental Filmmaker Karaoke Throwdown @ 10 pm May 2nd. Join them for a brand new PDX Fest event! A handful of your favorite local filmmakers, (including Imago Filmmaker Mel Brown,) have created homemade karaoke videos to their favorite karaoke songs. Audience members will get to perform songs from this custom made catalog and experience an all-new way of doing Karaoke!

Friday 2nd:
Dave Anderson Opening

In the Company of Crows and Ravens, Oils on Canvas. Reception from 6pm-9pm, Friday, May 2nd. The show will run through Saturday, May 31st, 2008 at Tilde, 7919 SE 13th Avenue, Portland OR. Imago Artist, Dave Anderson will show his study of crows; mysterious, colorful and imaginatively rendered in oil on canvas. .

Saturday 3rd: Laura Veirs.

Local sweet-voiced songstress Laura Veirs will be charming the crowd at the Doug Fir tonight with tunes from her six wonderful records. Support from Liam Finn and Let's Go Sailing. Doug Fir Lounge, 9pm. Over 21's. $15.

Sunday 14th:
Willy Vlautin

Motel Life author and Richmond Fontaine frontman, Willy Vlautain will be reading from his latest novel Northline this evening. An exclusive cd with music scored and played by Vlautin accompanies the book. Powell's City of Books, 1005 W Burnside Street. 7:30pm. FREE.
