PDX Picks April 17th 2008


Thursday 17th: Mark Kozelek and David Bazan

Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters & Sun Kill Moon,) is solo tonight playing from his seemingly endless back catalogue. Support comes from David Bazan, (Pedro the Lion,) making for a must see musical event. Alladin Theater, 3017 SE Milwaukie. All Ages. 8pm.

Saturday 19th: Planet B-Boy

Catch this documentary about break dancing, playing all week at the Regal Fox Tower 10, with live performance from the Apple Juice Crew. Regal Fox Tower Stadium 10, 846 SW Park Ave.

Fleet Foxes and Blitzen Trapper

If you have not yet heard Seattle-based band Fleet Foxes, proceed straight to their myspace page and prepare to fall in love with their haunting medieval vocals and enormous, decadent rock. There in town tonight with local favorites Blitzen Trapper, supported by AU. Well-worth a look in. Holocene, 1001 SE Morrisson. Over 21s. 9pm.

Sunday 20th:
Mercury Fashion Show

Twelve local designers go head to head for your vote in hopes of winning a $1,000 grand prize. Wonder Ballroom, 128 NE Russell, 8pm. $10. Over 21's

Sunday 20th:
The Round

3 songwriters share the stage with slam poets & live painters... audience sits in rapt attention... This is a non-profit, volunteer powered "arts experience". It's about community, inspiration and change for the artist and the audience. An intimate evening of live music in the Round, great ambience, lovely people, fantastic art. With music from Andy Combs ( Point Juncture Washington), Ali Ippolito, and Leonard Mynx. Slam poetry from local legend Anis Mojgani and Seattle-based slam poet, Danny Sherard and live art from Nathan Clark and Jaik Faulk. I curate this event and it comes highly recommended, we’d love to see you there. Program kicks off at 8pm sharp. Suggested donations from $5-10, all money to the artists.
