
"A Journey from Modernism to Post-Whatever"
Dr. Wes Hurd founded McKenzie Study Center, a fellowship of Christian thinkers and teachers dedicated to understanding the Bible and its relation to the great world ideas and culture. He is co-founder and President of Bluetower Arts Foundation of Eugene, Oregon. He has as M.A. in Biblical Studies from Western Seminary, a Ph.D in Educational Foundations and an M.F.A in Painting from the University of Oregon. He is a full-time tutor at Gutenberg College, a great books college based in Eugene where he teaches art history, western civilization and art practica. He is also director of Art Project, an arts fellowship within Gutenberg College. As a practicing artist, Wes was nominated for the first Northwest Contemporary Art Award through the Portland Art Museum. He has written many short essays and articles on arts, Biblical faith, Christian and the dynamics of culture.
Dr. Wes Hurd will be joining us on the evening of Tuesday July 15th to share some of his own personal journey as a visual artist and lecture on the theme of visual arts in the 21st Century. Dr. Hurd is an amazing artist, speaker and a passionate believer who has long been an advocate for the importance of arts in a faith context. In this evening's talk Dr. Hurd will spend most of his time talking about contemporary art through his own experience in visual art over the last 15 years. The seminar will have two parts. It will begin with a short review and assessment of developments in contemporary art. In the second part Dr. Hurd will give a brief history of his own development as an artist by showing images of his work.
